» Continue Active since 1914, Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry is one of the three Regular Force infantry regiments of the Canadian Armed Forces.It has received 41 battle honours, with three of its soldiers having been awarded the Victoria Cross during World War I.When a grade-three/four teacher in Manitoba put a call out on Facebook for postcards, he wasn’t expecting a response quite like this. Hrychuk, a teacher at Henderson Elementary School in Dauphin, Manitoba, posted a letter on Facebook in February asking Canadians to send his class postcards from their communities to teach his students about Canadian geography, citizenship and social media.One month after the initial post, the class has received 600 pieces of mail from across Canada — and the world. By the end of the first week, Hrychuk’s letter had already been shared more than 4,000 times. "It's very easy to click ‘share’, but how many people are going to take the time to buy a postcard, fill it out, get a stamp and put it in the mail? “I had no idea it would be so successful." The Patrician, also known as The Esquimalt patrician, is a regimental journal first published in May 1933 and devoted to the interests of the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry’s past and present.
Initially published quarterly, it was suspended during the Korean War.
Other well-known photographers include Leonard Frank and J. Publishers include Vancouver’s Thomson Stationary Co. and Gowen Sutton Co., and Warwick Brothers & Rutter (Toronto), the first Canadian company to produce colour postcards.
Increasingly, postcards are being recognized as important primary resources for historians and researchers in many other fields.
